The Deaf Community’s Social Centre
Social activities for the Deaf community take place at the centre on most days of the week, with the main events being on Mondays and Fridays.
Monday is the weekly meeting of the Deaf Senior Citizens Group (though younger people also attend). There is a regular attendance of 50 or more people, who enjoy a chance to converse in Sign Language without being a spectacle for hearing people, a light lunch and a traditional game of Bingo. The Monday gatherings also provide an opportunity for the community to ask assistance from the management team to make phone calls or write letters on their behalf, or just to interpret Council or other forms and letters.
Wednesday Evenings a Drama Group meets which is for anyone Deaf or hearing who wants to get involved in creating a drama production
Alternate Wednesday evenings see the Sign Language Club in action. This is an opportunity for people who are learning Sign Language in classes at the Centre to practice what they have learned in a relaxed environment with Deaf members and tutors on hand to help.
Friday is the main social evening for the Deaf Community, with Grand Bingo every other week, drawing Deaf friends from all over the Midlands.
The Bar is open every from Monday to Saturday from 7pm and on Sundays from 1 - 3pm.
Non members can take temporary membership.
