Meet The Team
Walsall Deaf Peoples Centre is an independent charity (Charity Number 216215). It was formally registered as a charity in 1945 but had been a Church mission at least since 1902. So there is a long tradition of providing support for a Deaf community in the Black Country – and although the Charity purchased a building in Walsall in 1945 which has been its home ever since – its members and visitors come from all over the Black Country.
The Management
The Deaf community is proud to be able to say that the Centre is run by Deaf people for Deaf people, though a few hearing people are employed where necessary. The charity has five trustees, at present all are Deaf. The Trustees meet four times a year to ensure that everything is in order and to the benefit of the Deaf community
A Social Committee of ten Deaf members is responsible for the leisure and social activities of the Deaf community including the licensed bar.
The day to day operations of the Deaf centre with its various services and facilities are run by a management team and support staff both hearing and Deaf
The Member
The Centre has over 300 signed up members, who are eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting and to have full access to facilities. The Centre is open to members of the public whether Deaf or hearing without discrimination, and we are proud to note that we have members of many different ages and ethnicities
